| I've recorded
several sound clips of the wolves, but until now
they've been buried deep in the diary entries.
This page provides an easier way to listen to the
wolves of the Trust - enjoy!
wolves3.mp3 Recorded in July 2004
All seven wolves feature in this clip, recorded
standing by Duma and Dakota's enclosure. Kenai's
two-tone howl is especially noticeable. (0:28)
octwolves.mp3 Recorded in October 2004
The European wolves started off howling as usual,
but then decided to "rally", amongst
much tail wagging and muzzle licking. (0:56)
oct31wolves.mp3 Recorded in October 2004
When the wolves howl, they often go on for a long
time. This recording was made close to the
European enclosure and features
"rallying" at roughly six, ten and
eleven minutes into the clip.(13:15)
dakota.mp3 Recorded in November 2004
Duma and Dakota usually howl together, but this
time they didn't. Here's a short clip of Dakota
howling. (0:13)
howl4.mp3 Recorded in November 2004
An unusual recording due to the proximity of the
wolf! I was standing by the Euro enclosure with
Duma and Dakota howling next door. Latea, two
feet away from me, decided to join in. Note that
this MP3 is loud and quite piercing.
(1:23).
jan30.mp3 Recorded in January 2005
The European wolves started howling and
(eventually) the others decided to join in.
(1:52)
febwolves.mp3 Recorded in February 2005
In the midst of breeding season, the European
pack saw great upheaval as Lunca and Latea
switched positions. That doesn't stop them from
howling though and there was almost a rally on
this freezing cold February morning. (1:26)
marwolves.mp3 Recorded in March 2005
A month later on a blustery morning I arrived to
be greeted by all seven wolves howling - this
clip was recorded near the European wolf
enclosure. (1:02)
may.mp3 Recorded in May 2005
As seen in the picture above, the European wolves
decided to howl just a couple of feet away from
me. The recording features all three and is an
example of how invidiual tones harmonise when
several wolves join in. (1:55)
